It’s out with the orange ๐Ÿงก and in with the purple ๐Ÿ’œ this year as we decided to replace the ageing sofas. The new ones have the added advantage of being a little higher, and therefore allow a better view of the loch out of the window!

What an unexpected treat yesterday: Having driven across to do some work on the lodge, we arrived to find a layer of ice on the tide line sparkling in the sunlight. Later the same evening we enjoyed a dramatic sunset too. A wonderful winter’s day, and some jobs completed ready for our first guests to arrive too!

Clachan Lodge guests now have access to free WiFi!

Clachan Lodge now with WiFi
Clachan Lodge WiFi speedtest results

We are pleased to announce that we now have WiFi internet access available for all our guests during 2017 and beyond. It has been a long battle with BT to get to this stage, however… Installation of the new phone line itself took four and a half months (and there was an existing telephone pole in the garden!). That was eventually completed at the end of November last year – but then they gave us a connection which was capped at 1Mpbs. ๐Ÿ™

But today I can confirm that the cap has been removed, and we are now on a full “up to 8Mbps” service. In the real world, that means we can achieve a download speed of approx 6Mbps on a good day. OK, so it’s not UltraFast Broadband – but for Mull that is pretty good!

So feel free to bring your laptops and phones with you to Dervaig. Full connection details can be found in the guest information folder in the lodge.

Dog admires view from lodge window
Oscar admires the view

The Lodge has always been “dog friendly” – and our intent is for your dog to enjoy the holiday as much as you do.

“Oscar” came to stay with us over the Christmas period, and had a great time both around the Lodge itself and at Calgary beach, which is only a short drive away. Here’s what Oscar had to say about his visit:

“I loved the view from the window – I could see all sorts of interesting things outside. I couldn’t wait to get out and play in the loch.”

“But more than anything, I enjoyed our trip to Calgary beach. It was great fun running around the sand and chasing after my stick.”

Finally we have our own entrance! Visitors next year will be able to climb the new steps to the lodge, instead of having to take “the long way round” as used to be the case. It was back-breaking work, but I think the results are worth it!

Extra points if you can spot the robin that came to inspect our work… ๐Ÿ™‚
